Year 3

Mr Houghton Mrs Procter Miss Lawery
Hello, my name is Mr Houghton and I would like to welcome you to Year 3.
With the support of my teaching assistants, Mrs Procter and Miss Lawery, we aim to provide a knowledgeable and engaging curriculum. The children will explore a range of topics including a study of the Roman Empire and its impact on Britain, Farm to Fork and the Stone Age. As well as a study of Dubai, Air Pollution and crucial age related life skills such as, using basic cooking skills.
In Year 3, we strive to make learning cross curricular by experiencing a range of English texts and pieces of writing and we link these to our topics by writing diaries, poems, newspaper reports etc. with a historical or geographical context. The reading texts we explore include Stone Age Boy, Escape from Pompeii, Romans on the Rampage, Charlotte’s web, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory and The Lorax as well as others.
We follow the White Rose Maths scheme and give children the chance to explore fractions, time and properties of shapes as well as continuing to develop number skills in place value and times tables.
In Science we take a look at the formation of rocks, understand and conduct experiments with plants and investigate how they grow. We continue to explore light and give the children the chance to use their scientific minds to develop their own experiments in forces and magnets.
