Mr Houghton Mrs Dixon
Hello, my name is Mr Houghton and I would like to welcome you to Year 3.
With the support of my teaching assistant, Mrs Dixon, we aim to provide a knowledgeable and engaging curriculum. The children will explore a range of topics including a study of Yorkshire, Coal Mining, The Stone Age, Myths and Legends plus Urban Pioneers.
In Year 3, we strive to make learning cross curricular by experiencing a range of literacy texts and pieces of writing and we link these to our topics by writing diaries, poems, newspaper reports etc. with a historical or geographical context. The reading texts we explore include: Stone Age Boy, Danny the Champion, Town is by the sea and The Ice Monster.
We follow the White Rose maths scheme and give children the chance to explore fractions, time and properties of shapes as well as continuing to develop number skills.
In science we take a look at the formation of rocks, understand and conduct experiments with plants and investigate how they grow. We continue to explore light and give the children the chance to use their scientific minds to develop their own experiments in forces and magnets.
